So sad. Just this past Sunday, out of the blue, I had the desire to listen to "Scraps at Midnight"--an album I always enjoyed but had not listened to in a long, long time. It's weird that he then passed away just a couple days later. His music could be dark and moody, but he always left enough breaks in the clouds for some sun to shine in. Screaming Trees were always underrated. I like Dust as well--especially the song Halo of Ashes.
Thanks for sharing this Jay. Mark’s voice and songs have been there for me since I was a tortured teenager. They were supposed to play a show at the Masonic Concert Hall in Toronto back in the 90s. Opening for Alice in Chains maybe? I was super bummed when they cancelled at the last minute. Something about one of the brothers. Broke a leg or something. I still listen to him regularly and was always glad that he was still around making great music when so many of his peers had passed on. I’ll miss him, but I’m glad he left such a deep and diverse body of work that will never die.

Wonderful writing, Jay. So very sad.
Thank You for this tribute Jay. I'm so choked up and generally unable to put words to my feelings very eloquently, this has helped.
Hang in there Gene. Love to you
